Taher Gulamhussein.

Taher qualified as a solicitor in 2019 having studied philosophy at University College London and law at the University of Westminster. He completed his solicitor training contract at Legal 500 firm Birnberg Peirce & Partners.

Taher specialises in complex cases involving political asylum, criminal deportation, human rights claims and EU law.

Taher is accredited as a Supervising Senior Caseworker under the Law Society’s Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme, a stringent process involving exams and regular re-accreditation. He is an experienced advocate at both the First-Tier Tribunal and the Upper Tribunal.

Taher has invaluable experience of assisting and advocating for vulnerable people who are victims of state violence. Before qualifying as a solicitor, he dedicated many years of his life to working and volunteering in a number of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and charities including the Network for Police Monitoring, Islamic Human Rights Commission, StopWatch, Release, and Y-stop. He is one of the founders of the Anti-Raids Network and the Stop Deportations Network.

In those capacities, Taher has sat on a number of panels including the British Transport Police Stop and Search Community Consultation Group, the College of Policing Stop Search Strategic Scrutiny Group, and Her Majesty’s Inspector of Constabulary Stop and Search External Reference Group. He has also contributed to Home Office consultations that have led the Home Office to change its policy guidance.
Taher speaks English (native) Gujarati (fluent), Lisan al-Dawat (fluent), Brazilian Portuguese (semi-proficient), Hindi (basic), Urdu (basic), Arabic (basic), French (basic) and Spanish (basic).
